Sam Update

It has been a bit since I wrote about the Sam. There have been some recently milestones met.

And He Was Called Sam, Sometimes

It does seem that Christina and I can’t call any thing by its given name. The Echo became the Echo Gecko. Hanna + Banana = Hanna Banana. Sophie is affectionate called “fat dog”. A personal favorite is referring to the Baby Bjorn baby carrier as “the strap on”, especially effective in crowd places such as a mall. Sam is not any luckier. From the get go I stuck him with the Bucket moniker. It still sticks when it becomes “put the Bucket in the Bucket” (referring to the car seat not a real bucket). Here is the latest list of aliases:

  • Sam-bone
  • Sam-inator
  • Good Boy
  • Sam-ilicious
  • Sam-onella
  • Sam the Man
  • Peanut
  • The Nut

The king of them all is Salmon. As in the fish salmon. Our friend’s son Drew mispronounced Samuel and it came sounding a bit fishy. And it has stuck.

Big Boy’s Bed

Sam has made the monumental move from a bassinet in our room to his handy dandy crib in “his” room. Wondrous joy. No more tripping over the damn thing late in the night followed up with a stern hush from the wife for fear of waking a sleeping Sam. I would have never thought that a tiny bed would be such a huge obstacle. As cute as it was and as handy as it was the pain of moving the damn thing in and out every morning and night and the constant noise emanating from inside got too much. He is doing great though. He doesn’t even seem to notice. He has plenty of room though, only taking up 1/32 of the crib space. But, we are all the happier for it, even if he doesn’t know it yet.

Big Boy’s Clothes

Finally, in time for his three month birthday, Sam has finally made the switch to his 0-3 month wardrobe. We are sort of guessing at a 12 lb. weigh in since it has been a little bit since anything official. He is getting long though and is filling out the clothes now. The weather cooperated a bit with a cold spell to get in his fancy clothes a good wear before it warmed up for the second half of this two week size window. We listened to all the advice about ignore the newborn sizes, “They don’t stay small enough, long enough, to buy to many”. Then came Sam. Don’t worry though, through the power of organization, Christina has assured a smooth transition between sizes for the next 3 to 4 years of wardrobe needs.

Bodily Function Boy

Should have added this as a nickname but it is more of an observation. That still is the majority of our interaction with Sam the Man. Eat, sleep, poop. Add in fart and drool with a side of up-chuck you got the gamut. He definitely has the Mogg methane gene but luckily with out the smell. He likes to save the poops for one, gigantic diaper buster. It does make an incredible sound. Like a large bucket of mud being dumped into a large vat of mud muffled by an array of absorbent powder, cotton and plastic. Drool. I am surprised he is not dehydrated. And I am told that it gets worse.

Sam Gets Schooled

Christina had to go to work yesterday and we have to pay exorbitant amounts for someone to hang with the Sam. We would love to do otherwise but with health insurance cost blinding and the diabetress making it hard to go independent (I will be harping on this else where soon) it means we both have to work. But it was worse off for mom than Sam. I don’t think he really noticed yet. Matter of fact the little bum stayed up the night before and slept all day for them. Christina has called hourly to make sure he hasn’t lost a limb yet. (I joke but they did tell her something to the effect that she was identified as the uptight one but with prettier language, she gets leeway for a bit though). Sam already has his eye out for a girlfriend but at that age kids all look the same. He needs to double check.

New Photos

You can always visit our Flickr stuff, handily linked on the side, for all of our nifty photos. But I am posting a new slide show below for your enjoyment. ( Trish, you have your own section at the Flickr)

All about the poo – Keyword Conversions for February 15 – 21

I don’t normally post this stuff but I found it humorous.

For those of you that don’t know what I am talking about, a keyword is a search term, in this case google search terms, that someone typed in looking for something on the interweb. The conversion is when they click on to my site from that search.

Here are the 6 conversions for the week of the 15th to the 21st with visits and the number of pages they check out:

Latest FML movie – Late For Work

I haven’t worked on much of anything website related (FML or Pumpers or Sentinel) for a time now. Instead I have been burning the midnight oil the last two and a half weeks on my latest project, Late For Work. The reason for the priority was that I decided to enter The Lot. It is a reality contest created by Steven Spielberg (big famous director) and Mark Burnett (evil genius behind Survivor). The deadline was last friday and in usual fashion I read the entry requirements in piecemeal, causing much consternation and more work than nescessary.

I knew about the video entry, easy enough. Duh. But then I noticed the requirement for a little 30 to 45 second intro. Doh. Then I happened to read that you had to send in a DVD. Double Doh. While it might not sound like a lot extra, to a chronic procrastinator, it is. It was in keeping with the whole spirit of the project though. Christina and I actually filmed the scenes last summer and a rough cut has been taking up hard drive space for about seven months.

All that was needed was a fresh take on the drive scene and a soundtrack. The hang up on the soundtrack was the sound effect for the alarm clock. I figured the massive amount of sound effects banks floating on the interweb would at least have one digital alarm clock sound. Nope. I don’t like recording stuff like that because many times it doesn’t actually sound like it does normally after you have recorded it. I spent way too much time for that little sound. Especially when a re-shoot with a old school clock would have worked. Add stubborn to procrastination. I am not the happiest with the music but it works for what it is worth. A little Soundtrack magic. Soundtrack gave issues when I didn’t export the reference file right. Lost more idiot time on troubleshooting.

The drive sequence is my pride and joy. I think it is nifty. It also is my half ass tribute to the original Thomas Crown Affair. Love the split screen effects used through out. Shout out to nifty site for help in checking out the effect and its best usage, www.splitscreen.us. With more time I could have gotten it a little more frenetic like I envisioned but there was another learning curve in there for that one as well. I still think the final bit was pretty nifty for a first try at that stuff.

Here is the written intro I posted for it on The Lot:

Inspired by the worst part of the daily, 9 to 5 grind, getting there. Getting up, dressed and through the crazy traffic can sometimes be worse than a full day of work.

This is a fun look at that daily ritual for the work week.

The filmed intro I will save for you to view on The Lot website once it is posted. I will talk that up when it is up. right now check out my profile.

Now for the movie, click read more to watch it.

Universal FML Feed – Yahoo Pipes

For anyone that cares, I have created a nifty universal link for all of my feeds (Blog of the FML, Orlando Pumpers, Sentinel Community Blog, FML Photoland, FML Videoland or all the ones on the left side already). While this truly useless creation is truly useless I found the making quite nifty. I used the new Yahoo Pipes to create my little RSS mashup. Cool thing about this is the total avoidance of knowledge of Ruby or other time coding madness to get nifty web 2.0 goodness. Cool thing if you don’t want to spend time learn Ruby or other coding madness, which I am sure all those people that learned some in order to do even the smallest nifty thing are feeling no love.

Any rate, you get to use modules and an easy gui to drag the pieces to the table and connect the pipes to each for the workflow of your hand dandy project. It runs it (debug default on bottom) as you add piece or connection each time so you know pretty quick when you have made a misconnection. It also doesn’t allow to connect any that are obviously the wrong order. It seems pretty powerful for what it is. It also allows you to publish and clone other projects that people have made (community goodnes of web 2.0). I used my Yahoo login to use it and don’t know if you have to have one. If you Flickr or any of the other stuff Yahoo has bought then you got one already.Semms that this is in house for Yahoo and they beat Google without buying it for enormous sums.

Oh, by the way I am loving Bloglines for all of my RSS needs. It has a handy subscription button for the sites you want to add on the fly and allows you to publish your list for public browsing. I haven’t moved everything over from Safari yet but this a worthy replacement.

I can’t claim the Yahoo Pipes as my own discovery, heard it on Twit 88

FML Movie Spotlight: RossTanner

In the attempt to share more useless junk I also posted some of the goofy movies I have made in the past on Revver. In Web 2.0 obsessive fashion I have tracked their views too. Nobody has seen them. So I am now creating a new useless category, FML Movie Spotlight. I am going to highlight a FML movie in the times that I have absolutely nothing else to say. I am going to show the movie and you can read more about it by clicking on the read more link at the end. Enjoy!

Let me introduce my first gem:

RossTanner

Good reason for the neglect

It has been busy lately. A good chunk could be blamed on Sam. He had his baptism two weekends ago. With that came a household full of family and friends. It went over great but still a little time intensive. Unfortunately the batteries were dead for the camera but as soon as our surrogate photographers send a few emails. I will post to share. He also had his first basketball game (UCF) and Superbowl party in one weekend as well.

Work has been horribly busy. A video/ web project, conventions and the miracles needed to be worked for the PO’s to go through and endless new projects have sucked it out of me. I am over it though. I stopped having fun long time ago and the job search has been full throttle. I have the sinking feeling that I trying to jump into things just as unsatisfying just to get out. Worse yet is that I have not figured out what I really want to do. I am still flirting with some thing entertainment wise.

I have also divided my attention to the other two sites. Orlando Pumpers has gotten some good response. I also got a great email from another blogger that I will have more on after I write a response. The Sentinel site is going well. I had a couple of good photos for it that got some good response. The more legit stuff seems to get a resounding cricket chirp.

I have reworked a little on this site though, if you haven’t noticed. The feeds on the left side are from the other two blogs, the Sentinel and the Pumpers sites, and video/ photo stuff. The Digg and del.ici.ous will be relegated to the other side for a more inclusive Confederated States of FML link section. The blog roll will soon disappear since I have gotten into Bloglines for all of my RSS needs. I have a public link for those feeds I have been sucked into. I also have actually put a little into the About page. I noticed that it gets looked at by every new visitor and was a little bare. I also dropped the auto download badge for my resume so I can track it a little better. The media page is next. I dropped the listing of the parent child pages. Meaning you have to go to the media page to check out the other stuff instead of just using the menu on the side. I am trying to clean things up a bit.

As far as future projects I am working on a short video. I hope to have it done by the 16th to submit to the Lot show. The Spielberg reality show. I will have more when it is done. I have also started creating my own wordpress theme. I like the widgets and three column thing but would like it a little more minimal. Plus work back in the munkee stuff a little. I have to throw in a little computer rebuild (clean OS, not bad with netrestore for OS X)

That’s it for a little bit.

Help save the little monkeys!!

This is an incredibly important subject needs to be taken seriously and watching this video is the first step in helping the world and the monkeys to begin to heal. God bless the monkeys.
