It has been a bit since I wrote about the Sam. There have been some recently milestones met.
And He Was Called Sam, Sometimes
It does seem that Christina and I can’t call any thing by its given name. The Echo became the Echo Gecko. Hanna + Banana = Hanna Banana. Sophie is affectionate called “fat dog”. A personal favorite is referring to the Baby Bjorn baby carrier as “the strap on”, especially effective in crowd places such as a mall. Sam is not any luckier. From the get go I stuck him with the Bucket moniker. It still sticks when it becomes “put the Bucket in the Bucket” (referring to the car seat not a real bucket). Here is the latest list of aliases:
- Sam-bone
- Sam-inator
- Good Boy
- Sam-ilicious
- Sam-onella
- Sam the Man
- Peanut
- The Nut
The king of them all is Salmon. As in the fish salmon. Our friend’s son Drew mispronounced Samuel and it came sounding a bit fishy. And it has stuck.
Big Boy’s Bed
Sam has made the monumental move from a bassinet in our room to his handy dandy crib in “his” room. Wondrous joy. No more tripping over the damn thing late in the night followed up with a stern hush from the wife for fear of waking a sleeping Sam. I would have never thought that a tiny bed would be such a huge obstacle. As cute as it was and as handy as it was the pain of moving the damn thing in and out every morning and night and the constant noise emanating from inside got too much. He is doing great though. He doesn’t even seem to notice. He has plenty of room though, only taking up 1/32 of the crib space. But, we are all the happier for it, even if he doesn’t know it yet.
Big Boy’s Clothes
Finally, in time for his three month birthday, Sam has finally made the switch to his 0-3 month wardrobe. We are sort of guessing at a 12 lb. weigh in since it has been a little bit since anything official. He is getting long though and is filling out the clothes now. The weather cooperated a bit with a cold spell to get in his fancy clothes a good wear before it warmed up for the second half of this two week size window. We listened to all the advice about ignore the newborn sizes, “They don’t stay small enough, long enough, to buy to many”. Then came Sam. Don’t worry though, through the power of organization, Christina has assured a smooth transition between sizes for the next 3 to 4 years of wardrobe needs.
Bodily Function Boy
Should have added this as a nickname but it is more of an observation. That still is the majority of our interaction with Sam the Man. Eat, sleep, poop. Add in fart and drool with a side of up-chuck you got the gamut. He definitely has the Mogg methane gene but luckily with out the smell. He likes to save the poops for one, gigantic diaper buster. It does make an incredible sound. Like a large bucket of mud being dumped into a large vat of mud muffled by an array of absorbent powder, cotton and plastic. Drool. I am surprised he is not dehydrated. And I am told that it gets worse.
Sam Gets Schooled
Christina had to go to work yesterday and we have to pay exorbitant amounts for someone to hang with the Sam. We would love to do otherwise but with health insurance cost blinding and the diabetress making it hard to go independent (I will be harping on this else where soon) it means we both have to work. But it was worse off for mom than Sam. I don’t think he really noticed yet. Matter of fact the little bum stayed up the night before and slept all day for them. Christina has called hourly to make sure he hasn’t lost a limb yet. (I joke but they did tell her something to the effect that she was identified as the uptight one but with prettier language, she gets leeway for a bit though). Sam already has his eye out for a girlfriend but at that age kids all look the same. He needs to double check.
