Politics Round Up for the Week

Date June 12, 2008

My liberal love for Olberman is unceasing and enjoy his random rants. In this one he sums up the primary season in a few short minutes:

And this one is an interesting mashup [via boing-boing]. Obama and Lincoln.

Forgo the obvious problems: a war president with an anti-war president, one filled with rhetoric and the other man of action, and the republican vs. democrat (not really relevant as the parties flip flopped and shallow nonetheless). It is interesting for it is pivotal relationship in race, moral quandaries embroiled in the population and the high minded ideals that have propelled a young, locally popular politician into the national spot-light and hpeflly in a position to realign the countries priorities to things that have made America a better place.
My caveat is that Obama is sounding less the skilled idealist and more the anti-Bush that Democrats want him to be. We still have a few months. We’ll see if he can live up to the comparison.

Yeah, Olbermann is immensely entertaining. I am concerned, however, that he’s seen as the left’s O’Reilly. Not that it will stop me from watching or anything.

I think the difference is that he doesn’t yell at guest and doesn’t maintain a reidculous style that is already mocked as the example of buffoonery that right leaning commentators take. I would rather compare him to Glenn Beck, who rants but has discussions with guest that he doesn’t agree with and allows them to finish sentences. Even though I think of him as buffoon like as well. Olbermann needs to have more counterpoint from intelligent right wingers (I know they exist, Scarborough has them on, despite the consternation of the neo-cons).
